PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT OPPORTUNITIES AVAILABLE AT EAST CAROLINA UNIVERSITY
GREENVILLE-- East Carolina University is offering several professional development opportunities that may be of great interest to the North Carolina High School Association membership.
The courses will be offered at ECU on Saturday, November 8, as part of the Division of Continuing Studies at East Carolina and in conjunction with the North Carolina Athletic Directors Association.
The NFHS Coaches Education Course will be offered, a blended course with the first two hours of face-to-face instruction offered on campus and then the additional two hours of instruction on line. Units within the course include Educational Athletics and the Role of the Coach, The Coach as Manager, The Coach and Physical Conditioning and The Coach as Teacher.
“Sports Medicine for School Personnel” will also be offered, including topics such as Emergency Preparedness, Common Conditions, Injuries and Infections of Young Athletes, and Principles of Basic Injury Prevention and Management.
Three courses from the National Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association (NIAAA) leadership Training Program will also be presented. Those courses include LTC 501, which is “Athletic Administration: Philosophy, Leadership, Organization and Professional Programs”; LTC 502, which is “Athletic Administration: Principles, Strategies and Methods”; and LTC 612, entitled “Athletic Administration: Technology I, Basic Computer Application.”
The day will begin with registration and a continental breakfast at the Belk Building on campus from 9 am to 10 am. Courses will be taught for the next two hours, followed by a campus tour. A tailgate lunch will be served from 1 to 2 p.m. and then East Carolina’s Pirates will take on Marshall in a 3:30 p.m. football game.
