HENDERSON COUNTY SCHOOLS JOIN FIGHT AGAINST CANCER
Henderson County teams are competing tonight and on Saturday in high school athletic events that will also help raise money and awareness in the battle against cancer.
Tonight's football game scheduled at Glenn C. Marlow Stadium between East Henderson and North Henderson at North, will include students from both schools will be participating in a "Pink Out" tailgate on the NHHS practice football field beginning at 6:15 pm.
Barbeque plates will be sold for five dollars at the tailgate. In addition, both football teams will be wearing pink socks to show their support and will also have a breast cancer survivor as an honorary game captain for the night.
On Saturday, North Henderson is hosting the fourth annual Volley for a Cure. Both varsity and junior varsity volleyball teams from North Henderson, East Henderson, Polk County and North Buncombe will come together for competition to raise awareness and money for the Susan G. Komen Foundation.
The first matches will get underway at 9 a.m. and the final matches will start at 1:30 p.m. Saturday. Concessions will be offered, as well as items for sale: T-shirts, socks, temporary tattoos, bracelets, beads and volleyball apparel. All of the proceeds will be donated to the Komen Foundation.
The NCHSAA salutes all of these schools and their community involvement.
