FAYETTEVILLE FOOTBALL TEAMS HONORED
FAYETTEVILLE -- One of Cumberland County's best football teams ever was honored recently during "Alumni Night" at Terry Sanford High School.
Former members of the 1947 and 1948 state championship football team from the old Fayetteville High School were recognized.
The 1947 team, under the late Bill Dole, posted a 10-0-1 mark and defeated Charlotte 39-0 in the championship game, and the '48 squad posted an 11-0 record and beat Burlington 14-13 in the state final.
A banner commemorating the teams was presented for permanent placement in the school gymnasium during the Cape Fear-Terry Sanford basketball game.
