North Carolina High School Athletic Association and UnitedHealthcare to Continue Sideline Hunger Food Drive at Basketball State Championships

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (February 28, 2018) – The North Carolina High School Athletic Association (NCHSAA) and UnitedHealthcare will continue the UHC Sidelines Hunger Food Drive at the 2018 NCHSAA Basketball State Championships on Saturday, March 10.

Fans attending the games are encouraged to bring nonperishable canned goods, and the schools squaring off on the court will compete against each other to see which community provides the largest donation. UnitedHealthcare will donate $500 to the school at each of the venues that collects the most food based on weight and meals provided.

Donations can be made at the entry gates of both N.C. State’s Reynolds Coliseum and UNC’s Dean E. Smith Center. The Food Bank of Central and Eastern North Carolina will receive the donations.

“UnitedHealthcare is grateful for the opportunity to help food insecure communities and North Carolina high school athletics in partnership with North Carolina High School Athletic Association,” said Scott Garland, CEO of UnitedHealthcare of North Carolina. “These communities continue to demonstrate their competitive spirit through their love of the game and in their enthusiasm to support their neighbors.”

The UHC Sidelines Hunger food drive at the Basketball State Championships follows three other food drives the NCHSAA and UnitedHealthcare have conducted during the 2017-18 school year. In total, NCHSAA and UnitedHealthcare have donated 5,543 pounds of food to local food banks providing 3,889 meals to those in need across North Carolina.

The NCHSAA Basketball State Championships will be held Saturday, March 10, in Raleigh at N.C. State’s Reynolds Coliseum, and in Chapel Hill at UNC’s Dean E. Smith Center. For questions, contact the NCHSAA at 919-240-7401 or visit the NCHSAA website at www.nchsaa.org.
