STUDENTS FROM HOGGARD & HOBBTON EARN PERFORMANCE OF THE WEEK AWARDS

CHAPEL HILL— Nina Devone from Hobbton High School and Matt Suggs from Hoggard High School have been named recipients of the NCHSAA Performance of the Week awards, powered by Spectrum SportsChannel.

Each week two athletes in North Carolina High School Athletic Association competition are selected for this award from nominations received from media and school administrators.

Devone, a senior at Hobbton on the track team, had a stellar weekend with a double win at the Rock Autism Track and field Classic hosted by Rocky River High School. Devone tossed a personal best discus thrown of 128’ 5.5”, topping her previous best by over 12 feet. The mark ranks her top in the state in the 1A Classification. She followed that up with a Shot Put win of 37’ 4”, just three inches short of a personal best and good enough for top five in the state this year. She was named Field Event Performer of the Meet.

Suggs, a junior catcher with the Viking baseball team, was named the MVP of the Ashley Spring Break Tournament after crucial performances for his team. Suggs went 7 for 12 with three doubles and four RBI in the tournament helping the Vikings to the Tournament victory. His 5 for 5 performance against previously unbeaten New Hanover in the semifinals helped lift his team to the title.

Spectrum SportsChannel typically announces the winners of the awards during its Sports Night show and will recognize the winners throughout the week. Weekly recipients will also be recognized via Twitter and Facebook.
