STUDENTS FROM SALISBURY & LANEY EARN PERFORMANCE OF THE WEEK AWARDS

CHAPEL HILL— Jayla Rogers from E.A. Laney High School and Griffin Myers from Salisbury High School have been named recipients of the NCHSAA Performance of the Week awards.

Each week two athletes in North Carolina High School Athletic Association competition are selected for this award from nominations received from media and school administrators.

Jayla Rogers, a junior on the Women’s Golf team, started the week by playing a round with Davis Love III at Pebble Beach as part of a PGA Tour Champions event. Two days later she fired a 3-over par 75 to claim medalist honors at the Mideastern Conference match at the Country Club of Landfall, keeping Laney unbeaten in the league. Then on Wednesday at the North State Golf Challenge, she shot 70 including a hole-in-one to finish with medalist honors again.

Myers, a senior quarterback for the Salisbury football team, helped lead the Hornets past Central Davidson 58-0. He was 10 for 12 through the air for 280 yards and four touchdowns, setting a new school record for most passing yards in a single game and tying the old record for touchdown passes in a single game. On the season, Myers has connected on 51 of 82 passes for over 1,000 yards, including 15 touchdowns without an interception.

Weekly recipients will be recognized on the NCHSAA Website and social media pages. They will also be honored at a banquet for all recipients from this year in late April. The deadline for nominations is each Monday at 5 p.m through the online form that can be found here.
