Weddington High School’s women’s basketball team and its star Stephanie Watts qualified for a performance listing in the North Carolina High School Athletic Association Record Book from a game earlier this week.
Weddington hit 14 three-point field goals as a team in its 56-28 victory over Cuthbertson, five short of the overall team record for a single game in women’s basketball. Northwest Guilford hit 19 shots from beyond the arc in a 2011 game against Winston-Salem Parkland.
Watts had 11 three-pointers herself, just one off the state record currently held by Jamie Cherry of West Craven and set last year in the second round of the NCHSAA playoffs.
