DURHAM—Chris Howell has been named as the new head football coach at Riverside High School, according to various media reports including the Durham Herald-Sun.

Howell, age 35, was elevated from his role as an assistant coach after head coach David Hackney resigned to become as assistant principal at Southern Durham.

Howell has been an assistant at Riverside for the last three years and was defensive coordinator last year for the 8-4 squad.  He has also served as an assistant coach at Durham Hillside, Southern Durham and Northeastern Oklahoma A&M College.

The new Riverside head coach is from Greenville, where he played at Rose High School and then at East Carolina University.
