R.J. Reynolds High School Sports Hall of Fame Announces 2011 Class

WINSTON-SALEM — R. J. Reynolds High School of Winston-Salem indcuted a class of six into its sports hall of fame on Sunday.

Members of the third class include Willson Alexander, Bob Cox, Kenny Duckett, Thomas Little, Clark Taylor and Norman Trzaskoma.

Alexander was a standout football player at Reynolds. As a solid 160 pound lineman, he received all-state honors from 1949-1951, and went on to play at the University of North Carolina where he lettered in football from 1952-1954.  He later returned to his alma mater and coached multiple sports for many seasons.

Cox, who retired in 1981, established the Demons as a powerhouse on the baseball diamond winning 11 conference championships while tallying an overall record of 223-92-1.  He later coached in the collegiate ranks at Wake Forest and scouted for the Pittsburgh Pirates and New York Yankees.

Duckett was a two sport all-state standout in football and baseball. His senior year at Reynolds, he was honored as the player of the year in both sports.  Duckett went on to play football collegiately at Wake Forest and professionally for the New Orleans Saints and Dallas Cowboys.

Little played football and ran track, but was known best for his speed. In 1968, Little won the state championship in the 400 meters with a time of 49.30, earning all state honors.

Taylor took over the tennis program for the Demons in 1966 and rewrote the record book. He never had a losing season in 24 years while leading four of those teams to undefeated seasons, amassing a total dual match record of 336-49.  Taylor was named North Carolina tennis coach of the year in 1979.

Trzaskoma coached cross country and track at Reynolds for 37 years. He was the state coach of the year for cross-country in 1975, 1976, and 1979 with his teams winning state championships five times from 1974-1978.  For fourteen consecutive years (1973-1986), his cross country teams finished in the top five at the state meet.  His outdoor track team won the state championship in 2006 and his indoor track team won the state championship in 2005-2006.
