Coach At Apex Dies Suddenly

GENE DANIELS PASSES AWAY

APEX–Gene Daniels, who coached at Apex High School, died suddenly on Wednesday at the age of 47.

Daniels, who was the athletic director at Salem Middle School in Wake County, was the head coach of the junior varsity women’s soccer team at Apex and assisted with the varsity. He was involved in the Apex High soccer program for 20 years.. He had also taught for 14 years at Penny Road Elementary School.

Gene was born in Nash County. He graduated from Broughton High School in Raleigh in 1982 and then graduated from Appalachian State University in 1986.

In addition to the funeral service scheduled for Sunday at Apex Baptist Church, a candlelight service was held on Thursday night at Apex High School and attended by hundreds, including women’s soccer players in uniform from both Salem Middle and Apex High School.
