BURLINGTON — Cummings High School will recognize the five newest members of its Hall of Fame at halftime of a men’s varsity basketball game between Cummings and Western Alamance on Saturday, January 29.
Cummings, with a rich athletic tradition, will honor coach Bob Paroli, Brandon Tate, Dwight Jones, coach Donald Davis Sr., and T.J. Gwynn.
Paroli, currently the head football coach at Fayetteville Seventy-First and a member of the North Carolina High School Athletic Association Hall of Fame, really began the winning tradition of Cummings football while he was there from 1976-79 as the Cavaliers made their first playoff appearances. He is currently the winningest active football coach in the state with 399 career wins.
Tate played on state championship teams at Cummings in football and basketball and went on to a great collegiate career in football at North Carolina. He currently plays for the New England Patriots of the National Football League.
Dwight Jones was a Parade all-American in football and outstanding basketball player for the Cavs, winning state titles in both sports. He was a second-team all-Atlantic Coast Conference player as a junior wide receiver for UNC in 2010.
Donald Davis Sr. has coached track for three decades at Cummings and has been a part of 18 different NCHSAA track state championships since 1983.
T.J. Gwynn was an all-state basketball player at Cummings and also played on a state championship football team. He played in two NCAA basketball tournaments during his college career at Virginia Commonwealth.
