Broughton Athlete Has Inspirational Story

BROUGHTON WOMEN’S BASKETBALL PLAYERHAS INSPIRATIONAL STORY

RALEIGH—  Emily Newton of Broughton High School in Raleigh has proven to be an inspiration for many.

The Sunday edition of the Raleigh News and Observer had a front-page story about the 16-year-old junior athlete who is playing varsity basketball for the Lady Caps just eight months after getting a liver transplant.

Her supportive family and her strong faith are both major elements of the story, which was written by Nate Taylor. Emily suffered from Wilson disease, a rare genetic disorder that causes the body to retain poisonous amounts of copper and is found in only one of about 40,000 people.

The story can be found by clicking the Sports link on the web site at www.newsobserver.com and then going to High School Sports, where the story is entltled “Strength Found, She Inspires Others.”
