NCHSAA ANNOUNCES FORMATION OF NEW STUDENT ATHLETE ADVISORY COUNCIL

CHAPEL HILL — The North Carolina High School Athletic Association announced today the formation of the NCHSAA Student-Athlete Advisory Council, working through the Student Services division of the NCHSAA.

The council will serve as a voice for student-athletes who participate in NCHSAA programs. The first Student Athlete Advisory Council will develop a mission statement and set goals and objectives under the guidance of NCHSAA staff.

The council will discuss topics that are relevant to high school student-athletes and develop ways to maintain a positive athletic experience. Prior to the council’s start date, members will undergo leadership training to help build a solid team. The SAAC will exemplify leadership and sportsmanlike conduct while carrying out the overall mission of the NCHSAA and the Student Services Division.

Membership on the Council is based on the following:

• Participant/Member of at least one NCHSAA Student Services program (i.e. D.R.E.A.M. Team, Student-Athlete Summer Institute (SASI), Coach & Captain Retreat, etc.)

• Responsible individuals who possess leadership characteristics

• Positive role models

• Capable of working with students from a variety of social groups

The NCHSAA received applications for the council positions and then a special screening committee, including NCHSAA staff and Student Services program facilitators, made the selections.

Members of the NCHSAA Student Athlete Advisory Council are expected to attend the NFHS National Student Leadership Conference in July for training and team development.
