UNCG TO OFFER SYMPOSIUM ON “GIRLS IN SPORT”

GREENSBORO – The University of North Carolina at Greensboro will be presenting the first annual Girls In Sports Symposium in February.

The event will be held on Friday, February 20, 2009, and is sponsored by The Center of Women’s Health and Wellness and the Department of Exercise and Sports Science at the university.

Scheduled for 8:30 am to 1 pm in the Elliott University Center Auditorium on the UNCG campus, the symposium seeks to enhance the ability of teachers, coaches, and community leaders who teach and coach girls and young women, to promote their positive development through sport and physical activity on the field, in the arena, in the studio and in schools. It will also include panel discussions by coaches, teachers, community leaders as well as female athletes at all participation levels.

Dr. Maureen Weiss, co-director of the Tucker Institute for Research on Girls and Women in Sport at The University of Minnesota, will deliver the keynote address.

The cost of the symposium is twenty dollars for teachers, coaches and community professionals, and ten dollars for undergraduate and graduate students. The cost will be $35 after February 6, 2009 for everyone, including any on-site registration done the day of the event.
