Morgan Leads Raleigh Charter To NCHSAA 1-A Women Soccer Title

CARY – Junior captain Camille Morgan had a goal and an assist to lead Raleigh Charter to a 3-0 victory over Kernersville Bishop McGuinness in the North Carolina High School Athletic Association women’s 1-A state soccer championship on Saturday at Koka Booth Field at the SAS Soccer Park.

Morgan, who is already Raleigh Charter’s all-time leading scorer, earned the Most Valuable Player award for the championship as the Phoenix earned their first team title as a member of the NCHSAA.

The Phoenix had a 2-0 lead at halftime as Morgan opened the scoring with her 44th goal of the season off an assist by Christine McGrath. Less than 14 minutes before intermission, Abby Fulp tallied after an Ananda Day assist for a 2-0 count.

Raleigh Charter made it 3-0 in the 67th minute when Morgan played a ball to Kate Rosen and Rosen found the back of the net.

Sophomore goalkeeper Meg Barrow recorded her 13th shutout of the season for the Phoenix and her fourth in five playoff games. Bishop McGuinness managed only one shot in the second half and that was in the final minute of the match. Raleigh Charter had a 9-3 advantage in shots on goal.

Bishop McGuinness had a 16-match winning streak snapped, as the Villains finished 16-5-1 after an

0-4-1 start. Raleigh Charter’s final mark was 19-2-3.

The Raleigh Sports Consortium serves as the primary host city partner for the women’s soccer championships, along with the Raleigh Convention and Visitors Bureau. Wendy’s and the Carolinas Ford Dealers are the presenting sponsors for the NCHSAA sports program.
