Internship Program

The mission of the NCHSAA internship program is to provide mentorship and productive experiences towards professional goals for college students in the state of North Carolina.

Interns at the NCHSAA have many opportunities to gain first hand experience and knowledge regarding high school athletics administration.

Interns will work closely with staff members, sports directors and commissioners. In addition to working state events, interns gain personal experience in tournament preparation, officiating and other special projects related to high school athletics.

This internship opportunity is fitting for individuals who are looking to gain experience in the field of athletic event management and become more knowledgeable of athletic association work. 

The NCHSAA considers applications for up to two interns, three times a year.  Since this program is offered to fufill elective or course curriculum requirements, it is not a paid internship.


Requirements and Qualifications:

  • High school diploma
  • Enrolled in college (2 or 4 year program)
  • Seeking a career in athletics or sports administration
  • Experience with basic software and internet-based programs
  • Able to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing
  • Able to work independently on projects with minimal supervision
  • Have attention details and well-organized

Dates of Internship

  • Fall:  August - December | Deadline:  July 1
  • Spring:  January - Mid-May | Deadline: Nov 1
  • *Summer:  Mid-May - July |  Deadline:  April 1

*Association office hours are reduced in the summer, please be sure to indicate number of hours needed for this internship.
